Time for a road trip… Instead of flying, taking buses, hiring taxis and sorting out other means of transport we’ve opted to discover New Zealand on our own. I managed to find a very very cheap car rental deal and so far we’ve covered roughly 1800km and already driven from Auckland (top of the North Island) all the way down to Queenstown (lower half of the South Island). In a Fiat Punto, camping along the way, freezing our asses off. Today we arrived in Queenstown where we’ve upgraded our wheels to an entirely different comfort level: a fully self contained camper van! Whoohoo!
This thing is equipped with two comfy beds, a fridge, a stove, running water, a heater, electricity, camping chairs and a table and best of all: a toilet! Why is the toilet such a big deal? Well, with a toilet on board your ride is certified self-contained which means you’re allowed to „freedom camp“ in designated camping spots. For free! Very, very nice therefore if you need to stretch your money. And you really do in New Zealand. Except for maybe Iceland I’ve never travelled in a country more expensive than Kiwi Land! On the other hand, the country has a lot to offer and even in this short week we have already seen amazing places!
